Local opticians puts safety first for children in Whitby

Specsavers in Whitby has donated high-visibility vests to local school pupils to ensure that they can be safe and seen.

Colleagues at the Specsavers store have been visiting primary schools in the Whitby area to raise awareness of the importance of road safety, focusing on tips for how they can be seen at all times when on their travels to and from school.

With the days getting longer as spring quickly approaches, more children are likely to be walking to school and the need for greater road safety awareness becomes an increasing priority.

The Specsavers store in Whitby donated vests to pupils at Stakesby Primary Academy and Ruswarp Primary School.

Vice Principal at Stakesby Primary Academy, Emma Robson, said: ‘Our pupils often walk to local sporting events, crossing busy roads, and we're incredibly grateful to Specsavers for their kind donation to ensure the children's safety.

‘The high-vis vests are essential and will enable parents to feel comfortable and confident in their child’s safety when they are out in the local community, on school trips and when walking to and from school.’

Sophie Harland, Store Director at Specsavers Whitby, said: ‘Specsavers is determined to ensure local children are seen and safe as they’ll be out and about as the days get longer. We hope these vests for pupils at Stakesby Primary Academy and Ruswarp Primary School will help spread the message of the importance of protecting children, families and everyone else on roads when they’re out and about in the local community.’
