Tortoises at an Essex animal sanctuary supported by pop star Leona Lewis now have even more excuse to take their time following a donation from a local flooring store.
After hearing about the work of Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, Flooring Superstore in Thurrock approached the charity to see if it had any projects that needed support.
The Brentwood sanctuary, of which singer Leona Lewis is a trustee, was in the process of planning the refurbishment of its tortoise enclosure so it asked whether the store could provide flooring.
Flooring Superstore donated packs of laminate flooring, worth almost £200, and the Sulcata tortoises are now enjoying walking on it, albeit very slowly!
Parami Kodikara, Head of Marketing & Communications at the Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, said: “The sanctuary is the forever home of more than 500 animals but to enable us to continue looking after them, we are wholly reliant on the generosity of the public and organisations.
“Not having to spend money on flooring for the tortoise enclosure means we can now divert resources elsewhere in the sanctuary, so we’re very grateful to Flooring Superstore for their kind donation.”
Ian Robinson, Flooring Superstore Area Manager, said: “When we heard about the great work Hopefield Animal Sanctuary does rescuing animals in need of a home we were very keen to offer our support.
“The sanctuary is only ten miles from our store, so we are delighted that the tortoises are now benefiting from the new flooring.”
The Flooring Superstore on Trade City, Motherwell Way, Thurrock, is one of 17 across the UK. Shoppers who visit the store also get access to flooring from two sister brands, Grass Direct and Direct Wood Flooring.
